Green and fair recovery

These are unsettling times for us all. But much like the climate emergency, the coronavirus pandemic has affected the most vulnerable both at home and abroad.

We've spent the last four months promoting safety and wellbeing in our network, and providing groups with resources and support as they shift towards online campaigning.

Now that the UK is starting to imagine what the future might look like, we have an opportunity (and responsibility) to ensure we don't return to the old broken economic and social systems of pre-COVID-19.

We know that our leaders are able to act swiftly and decisively when they want to – the pandemic has proven that. We must demand that same momentum and urgency as we look towards building a greener, fairer future for all.

We've published a proposal for a green and fair recovery plan (see below), as well as guidance on how to lobby your MP to help get you started.

As lockdown restrictions ease, you may want to resume face-to-face campaigning and organise in-person events. However, we strongly encourage you to hold meetings online for the time being and refrain from organising any in-person campaign activity. We should exercise caution as official guidelines continue to evolve and differ from one area to the other. Please consider that some more vulnerable members of your groups and wider community may not be able or willing to participate in any in person events. If you do decide to go ahead with any in-person activity, please follow the guidance provided by national authorities, and stick to any local restrictions that are in place.

As a network, we will continue to support one another and those in our communities as best we can. If you have any questions or a suggestion on how we can support you, please email

Demand a green and fair recovery plan

As government makes plans to steer the country out of social and financial chaos, we're faced with an opportunity to demand more and forge a better, greener and fairer future for all.

Read our proposal for a fair and green recovery plan, and find out how to lobby your MP and make it happen.

Lobby your MP

As part of Friends of the Earth's campaign to secure a green and fair recovery plan, they've asked members of the public to sign a petition asking Chancellor Rishi Sunak to deliver an economic plan that supports people and planet.

To ensure a sound plan is delivered (and to build pressure on government in the House of Commons), we've written a guide explaining how to contact your local MP and talk to them about the plan.
