What is the Climate Action Plan for Northern Ireland councils?

We’re facing a climate emergency, and there's just a short window of opportunity left to avoid irreversible damage to both people and planet. The good news is, we know what the solutions to climate breakdown look like. It’s down to us to put pressure on our leaders at local and national level to implement them.

We've created a Climate Action Plan for Northern Ireland councils to help cut carbon emissions at the rapid pace needed, and build a greener and fairer society for everyone.

What does the Climate Action Plan include?

Our 40-point Climate Action Plan covers a range of actions that councils in Northern Ireland can take to make their areas more climate friendly, from ending fuel poverty to investing in renewable energy. All of the actions are based on an assessment that measures significance of carbon reductions alongside positive impact on communities.

We know that measures around carbon reductions can get complicated, so we’ve broken it down into short guides on each topic covered in the plan.

How to use the Climate Action Plan for Northern Ireland

We want the Climate Action Plan for Northern Ireland to be shared as widely as possible, in order to get councils on board and adopting the plan. Share it with your wider local action group, and use it to lobby your local council.
